Bell Tower
Koh Kret should only be visited on Saturday or Sunday, because only then is it an experience. The small island was created in 1722 in the north of Bangkok by the straightening of the Chao Praya River. Koh Kret was once inhabited by the Mon, a minority who specialised in pottery, which is why the remains of kilns can still be found on the island. We continue north by express boat, passing large and small bridges, some of which are historic, and near our destination you can see from afar the striking bell tower, whose bell still works and has a beautiful sound. We reach our landing stage, where we leave the speedboat in the direction of the market.

Chau guoy
Our first destination is the small stalls on the pier offering traditional delicacies. A few market women sell one or two delicacies that you can taste. A dessert called chau guoy bathed in ice water, which looks like liquorice, is a national delicacy and refreshing. The ice water liquorice is put in a plastic bag and eaten on the way. Plastic bags or polystyrene boxes of all sizes are used to pack food in the market. One can buy a meal packed in the plastic bag for about 30 Bath. Then it is time to leave the square and from here we have to change to the means of transport TukTuk or taxi, as the pier is the last stop and the boats go back.

Koh Kret Island
Koh Kret can be recognised by the distinctive sign, the sloping white chedi that marks the island. We cross the Lat Kret River by small ferry and find ourselves on the historic island. Our first destination is the temple with the ordination hall, followed by a visit to the small museum. In the museum you will see many kinds of pottery and replicas of the kilns that were traditional here, which we will still see in the original. Afterwards we walk along a narrow path through the market, which leads us to the northern part of the island. Many handicraft but also machine-made products are offered here. Characteristic for the market are always the traditional dishes, which are prepared on small grills with a lot of flavour.
