Wat Arun Bangkok

Wat Arun – The Majestic Temple of Dawn by Night

Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamaha Wihan, widely known as the Temple of Dawn, becomes one of the most striking landmarks along the Chao Phraya River in the evening. Beautifully illuminated, its glittering central prang can be seen from afar, making it a favorite subject for photographers capturing Bangkok’s nighttime beauty.

During the evening hours, many dinner cruise boats pass close by, offering guests spectacular views of the shining Temple of Dawn. On our Klong tours, we also stop in the middle of the river—exactly where you can take the best nighttime photos of Wat Arun.

The central Phra Prang was originally constructed during the Ayutthaya period with a height of only 16 meters. It was later expanded under King Rama II to its impressive current height of approximately 67 meters.

King Rama I Monument – Bangkok’s Illuminated Landmarks

Our next stop is the Flower Market, best experienced in the evening hours when the market is bustling with activity as new stock arrives for the next day. While the vibrant market is a highlight, the main focus of our tour is Bangkok’s illuminated landmarks.

In this area, you can admire the beautifully lit monument of King Rama I, the founder of the Bangkok dynasty. Behind the monument, the green steel Memorial Bridge, which connects to Thonburi, is also glowing in the evening light.

Looking past the monument to the right, you’ll see the sloping stupa of Wat Prayun, famously known as the Turtle Temple, fully illuminated and offering another stunning photo opportunit

Wat Saket – The Golden Mount Illuminated at Night

Our journey continues toward Wat Saket, also known as the Golden Mount, built atop an artificial hill. At night, this temple becomes an absolute jewel of Bangkok, with its golden chedi glowing brilliantly and visible from afar.

From popular rooftops across the city—such as the Millennium Hilton Hotel or Lebua State Tower, famously featured in The Hangover Part II—the Golden Mount stands out as a central point in Bangkok’s illuminated skyline.

Of the original 14 forts that once protected the old city, only Fort Pom Mahakan, located near the Golden Mount, and Fort Phra Sumen to the east remain, adding a historical dimension to the stunning night view.

Democracy Monument – Bangkok’s Iconic Landmark

The Democracy Monument is one of Bangkok’s most recognizable landmarks, located in the center of the traffic circle on Thanon Ratchadamnoen Klang at the intersection with Thanon Dinso, in the Phra Nakhon district. It sits roughly halfway between Sanam Luang and the Golden Mount, with Khao San Road nearby, which we will visit later on the tour.

Commissioned in 1939 by Major General Phibun, the monument commemorates the 1932 Siamese Revolution, which marked the transition from absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy in the Kingdom of Siam. Today, it stands as both a historical and illuminated landmark that highlights Bangkok’s rich political and cultural heritage.

Khao San Road – Bangkok’s Vibrant Backpacker Hub

Khao San Road in Bangkok was originally a bustling street market where rice from all over Thailand was delivered and sold. Over time, it has transformed into a famous tourist hotspot, particularly popular with backpackers from around the world.

Today, Khao San Road is a lively multicultural street where visitors of all ages come together. Here you can find traditional Thai food, clothing, accessories, live music, and much more. The street offers an incredible variety of Thai specialties freshly prepared according to ancient traditions, as well as adventurous snacks such as edible insects or black scorpions.

Exploring the smaller alleys, you will discover stunning street murals and vibrant artwork that showcase Bangkok’s creative culture. Khao San Road is not just a street, but a must-visit destination for anyone wanting to experience the lively and colorful nightlife of Bangkok.
