Phutthamonthon
The Park was created in 1957. It has an area of around 400 hectares and was opened on Vaisakh Bucha Day, 13 May 1957. Located in the centre of the park, the 15.875 m high Leela Attitude statue was named Phra Si Sakkaya Thotsaphonlayan Prathan Phutthamonthon Suthat by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, literally the graceful statue of Shakyamuni with tenfold power, the presiding Buddha of beautiful Phutthamonthon. Around that statue are memorials to the four most important stages in the Buddha’s life: his birth, symbolised by seven lotus flowers, his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, his first sermon and his death. The marble viharn, which contains the entire Buddhist canon engraved in 1418 marble steles.
Dragon Temple Wat Samphran
After our guide picks you up, we drive into Nakhon Pathom Province and make a short detour to a highlight that you will surely enjoy, then our drive goes directly to the Dragon Temple. The building of the temple is a cylindrical structure with 17 floors, on the outside of which a dragon winds its way upwards, the building is hollow inside and can be climbed through a staircase. A very large complex that not only has the dragon as a highlight, but also an oversized turtle that can be walked on. Discover the two trees that are over 400 years old, which are unique. The adjacent park also houses very beautiful statues such as a large white elephant, the status symbol of the kings.
The old Don Wai market
After leaving the Dragon Temple, we head to the Don Wai Market floating Market, one of the oldest markets in Thailand located on the Tha Chien River. You will see only a few tourists here, as it is not suitable for mass events due to the narrow cramped paths in the market and the limited parking space. The river is also known by other names, as several provinces border it and each province has given it a different name. The Don Wai market is famous for the preparation of ducks cooked in herbs in large cauldrons, just like 100 years ago. In the meantime, the villagers sell their own produce that they grow here, so the market is also known for its desserts, dried fruits and fresh vegetables.
Floating market Don Wai with Temple
The market, which is located on a temple site, is mainly visited by the locals, it has of course expanded over the years and the selection of food and drinks has become more plentiful. There are a few restaurants located right by the River and each restaurant has its own special dishes. Duck dishes are very popular with the Thais and these are offered in all variations in one restaurant in particular. There is a variety of Thai delicacies, especially dried fruits of all kinds, which are not so familiar in Europe and can also be tasted free of charge. After we have been on the road for some time, you express your food wishes and our tour guide will choose the appropriate restaurant.
Don Wai Restaurant
We serve a selection of different dishes suggested by our guide so that you can get to know Thai cuisine even more intensively. Especially the steamed duck, braised mackerel in salty soup, noodles with fish curry sauce, steamed fish with curry paste and fried fish paste – balls are recommended here. There is a large selection of fish menus or even the pork knuckles, which are popular in Germany and actually taste very good. If you sit in the restaurant directly on the water, a large number of large cutfish are already waiting for your meal. Occasionally you see small traditional boats passing by, selling their wares from the river to the restaurant operators or even to guests. These are very welcome, as the traditional traders are very much appreciated here and this is also a cultural enrichment.
